Analysis of the Historical Settlements of the Giralda

The preservation of the cultural heritage is a current challenge for modern societies. Thus, it important to analyse structural behaviour historical buildings in order detect and prevent future damage. This paper analyses settlements Giralda tower Cathedral Seville. Currently, has tilt which might have been caused by differential settlement. With this aim, detailed characterisation foundation its geotechnical model carried out. An accurate 3D Finite Elements Model (FEM) used settlements, taking into account different construction phases, loads, time execution consolidation between phases. Finally, FEM results compared with other previous works in-situ measurements verticality tower. Therefore, authors found that south-east direction thicker, soft strata under corner, settlement direction. Moreover, should be highlighted good agreement real top displacements obtained.
